A new service supporting walkers, trekkers and mountaineers has started in Spain’s Sierra Nevada mountains. The service is run by Spanish Highs Mountain Guides of Lanjaron, Granada and is unique.
Airport transfers and accommodation services are nothing new. Many people offer these type of services. But how many offer their clients transport to and from the trailheads so that walkers and trekkers can start and end at differing points? Who else can offer laminated maps, route guides, dehydrated food, tent and gear hire, gps navigation systems and satellite phones as backup services?
In addition, Spanish Highs Mountain Guides can supply daily weather text messages to cellphones and also a rescue service in times of trouble. As Richard Hartley of the company explains “In today’s busy times, outdoor enthusiasts want to spend the maximum possible time in the mountains. Holiday time is very precious. This service allows them to get into the hills quickly, safely and with minimum fuss. In conjunction with them, we organise everything in advance.”
The new service should provide a useful contribution for all those seeking to walk or climb in the hills of the Sierra Nevada this coming year.
