The cause of periodontal disease is essentially an infection rampant in your gums that can eventually cause the loss of teeth if untreated. Gingivitis is the simplest form of Peiodontal Disease thus its symptoms are almost always painless and involve some redness and swelling of the gums. It is also common for a person to bleed easily when the gums are touched. If the periodontal disease remains untreated, it could spread to and under the gum line and become periodontitis
